The Mechanism of a Knockout Post

The ‘knockout post’ has a circular section and a lower end. The post has a shank that is received in a clamp 33. The clamp is welded to a knockout support bracket and supports the knockout post. A spacer 35 connects the posts. Once a clamp is welded in place, the knockout post is released from the clamp. The springs that generate friction between the knockout post and clamp are permanently adjusted.

The frictional clamp holds the knockout post. This frictional clamp is generated by permanently adjustable biasing springs. A convenient manual means is used to throw off the springs, allowing the post to be readjusted endwise. The process is fast and convenient. In this method, the post is removed from the clamp and can be repositioned. A knockout post in a power press is shown in FIG. 1. The frictional clamp is the second mechanism of a knockout assembly.

In the power press, a knockout post is mounted on a plate that is connected to a tension spring. The post is pressed onto the knockout plate by a frictional clamp. These biasing springs are permanently adjusted. When these springs are thrown off, the clamp can move endwise and reposition the post. This method is fast and easy. The system of a knockout post is illustrated in FIG. 1, which is an example of the mechanism of a knockout press.

A knockout post in a power press is supported by a frictional clamp. The springs in the clamp grip the knockout post and generate friction. These springs can be easily adjusted endwise with a manual means. The tension in the post can be changed by removing the biasing springs. However, it is important to ensure that the tension in the posts is constant. The tension in the clamp can vary by as much as ten degrees.
